About

Limited Run Games was launching the newly remastered Tomba! Special Edition. They needed a sleek new website to drive excitement and engagement and encourage seamless store purchases of the new game on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

We worked in collaboration with our Marketing Strategy partners CreativCompany. While they took care of copywriting and SEO tagging, our team focused on Design and Development. With the Game launch date already settled, we had a very short timeline to deliver a sleek website that would drive sales.

Tech Stack

We selected WordPress as the platform for building the website due to its flexibility, ease of content management, and ability to support a custom, responsive, and reusable structure.

Given that the Limited Run Games team needed the ability to edit and update website content without technical expertise, WordPress provided an intuitive and user-friendly interface for managing copy, images, and other media elements efficiently.

By leveraging WordPress, we balanced customization with ease of management, ensuring that the Tomba! website is both visually appealing and highly functional.

Project Highlights

The project had a couple of nuances to consider from the start. First, it was supposed to be developed as a reusable theme, and second, the layout should reflect the game's aesthetic.

Considering the needed flexibility of the theme, the customisation would happen to a certain degree. This was challenging when we threw into the mix the timeframe and budget to make it happen. No ready-made theme offered what was needed without the tradeoff of working on top of the source code or being limited to a set design. This quickly becomes counterproductive and inefficient. With our cumulative experience, it was indeed faster and more flexible to start from a clean slate.

Tomba's design is both evocative and generalist enough to leave the door open for quick adaptations with ease of control and range and still delivers a fun, bespoke design.

  1. Game Characters along the website

To bring the world of Tomba! to life on the website, we strategically incorporated key game characters throughout the design. This approach not only enhanced the visual appeal of the site but also created an immersive experience for users.

From the moment users landed on the homepage, they were greeted by Tomba himself, setting an energetic and adventurous tone. Throughout the site, additional characters appeared in various sections, reinforcing the game's charm and personality.

This seamless integration of characters helped maintain user engagement and excitement, making the website feel like an extension of the game itself.

  2. Call to Actions for Buying the Game

A primary goal of the website was to drive game sales effectively. To achieve this, we strategically placed strong Call to Action (CTA) buttons across the site. These CTAs were designed with high visibility, using contrasting colors and clear, concise messaging to encourage conversions.

We redirected users to different gaming providers such as Nintendo, Playstation and Steam.

  3. Media Gallery for Insights on the Game

A dedicated Media Gallery was created to provide users with rich insights into Tomba! Special Edition. This section featured gameplay screenshots, promotional trailers, and behind-the-scenes content, offering an in-depth look at the remastered game.

The media gallery also played a crucial role in building anticipation, particularly among nostalgic fans eager to see how the remaster improved upon the original.
